Mian Imran Masood, son of Mian Masood Akhtar, was born on May 25, 1963 at Gujrat. He obtained the degree of LL.B. in 1989 from the University of the Punjab, Lahore and is a practicing lawyer and a businessman, who has continuously been elected as Member of the Punjab Assembly since 1990. He functioned as Parliamentary Secretary for Health & Population Welfare during 1990-93, then as Member Public Accounts Committee during 1993-96 and as Chairman, Chief Minister Task Force on Education during 1997-99. In these capacities, he visited Indonesia, China, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and England. He also took study tours of the USA in 1997 and France in 1998. He has attended an International Conference Federation, held in Quebec, Canada in 1997. He also visited Oslo, Norway on the invitation of Mayor of Oslo, Norway. He has been elected as Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in General Elections 2002, and is functioning as Minister for Education since January 4, 2003. His uncle, Mian Muhammad Akbar, was Member, Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan during 1962-65 and his uncle, Mian Muhammad Rashid, was Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 1985-88.

Mian Imran Masood as a Parliamentary Secretary Health and Population welfare, was invited by President of Indonesia, Mr. Soeheuto. A high Power delegation went to Indonesia to study the Population Welfare Program, as an Indonesian Role Model,( 1990). A detail meeting was held in Jakarta and Field survey was conducted in Surabaya and Bali Island. The main mission was to understand the mechanism of population control.

He attended the Investment Conference in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1991 along with a group of Senators, Senior businessmen and Senior Journalists.

Mian Imran Masood represented Punjab in this conference, held at Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara. The first PIA inaugural flight started at that same time in that year.

In 1993, a high Power Parliamentary delegation went to China under the Leadership of the speaker of Punjab Assembly to discuss the bilateral trade relationship between Punjab and Beijing. Mian Imran Masood as member of Provincial Assembly joined this delegation. This delegation went to China on the invitation of the Chinese Speaker of Parliament. Many important meetings were attended for promotion of Agriculture, Import/Exports, and Investment in Power generation, Textile and Garment manufacturing.

Mian Imran Masood, as member of Public Account Committee of the Provincial Assembly organized the conference in Lahore. In the sector of financial sector and Good Governance. This was a National Conference, attended by all the four Provinces in Lahore.

In 1997, Imran Masood was elected for the third time in a row as member of the Provincial Assembly. He worked in the capacity of Chairman of Chief Minister’s Task Force on Education from 1997 to 1999. One of the biggest Army survey was conducted and supervised by Mian Imran Masood. The mission was to eradicate all “the Ghost Schools” in the Punjab.

A massive campaign was launched by the Task Force for the first time in the history of Pakistan. To check all the documents of the teachers and administrative staff. The physical inspection was done by the Task Force at the Grass-Root level of each and every school of Punjab.

New methods were designed to eradicate corruption which was rampant in the Government Schools of Punjab. 4,964 schools were identified as Ghost schools, 26,000 teachers were declared as fake teachers by the survey conducted by the Task Force. The cleansing of the department was carried during his time.

Ghost Schools were eradicated, fake teachers were terminated corruption was in check and pilferage of one billion rupees annually was stopped after this activity.

The World Bank Supported this Ghost Schools’ Activity and the Army Survey conducted in this regard was termed as World’s biggest survey conducted ever in Pakistan.

The British high commission invited Mian Imran Masood to study the Cambridge examination system at Cambridge. This Trip was arranged by the Cambridge consultants and DFID.

The American Embassy sent Mian Imran Masood on a study tour to USA, which was organized by the State department. Imran Masood represented Pakistan along with 17 other members from different countries. The topic was “Ethics in Government and Politics”.

Meeting with Transparency International was held and a visit to the U.S was undertaken. The workings of six various states were carried out.

Mian Imran Masood went to France on invitation of the French Government on a study tour, mission to study the “French Health Insurance System”. Interaction with the France-Pakistan Senator’s Friendship Group was arranged which went very successfully.

Initial talks were held, regarding opening up professional schools in Pakistan with the help of “Mr.Ted Lapidus.”

Fredrich Nauman Stiftung (German Organization) invited Mian Imran Masood to study the “Dual System of Education in Germany (Technical & Vocational Education).

Forum of Federation Canada invited Mian Imran Masood to attend the conference on Federalism in Quebec, Canada.

Mian Imran Masood was selected to attend this conference by the Canadian High Commission.

Mian Imran Masood went to Bangladesh to study the Grahmin Banking System and to study the model of “BRAC”(Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee.) A meeting was held with Dr.Abid and Dr.Younas “the Nobel Laureate”.

British Council Lahore arranged a trip to Lake District England to observe ELT-Training.

He also attended the Ministerial conference in Cairo, Egypt to discuss various successful models in that region.

Ministerial Conference in Germany was attended by him on the Invitation of the GTZ, NGO, and discussions were held on “Publishing and Printing”.

He also had the honor of attending the world Milk Conference in Cape town, South Africa.

He led the Pakistani Ju-Jitsu team to Kazakistan for Asian Champion ships.

Attended the Conference in Melbourne, Australia. Meeting was arranged by Melbourne University.

He went to India on the Invitation of Chief minister Indian, Punjab, to discuss the Education policy of Punjab Pakistan.

Attended the CITA conference in China, and in Jordan, Oman.
